The new corporate Bandits

I ran across this little gem in
a financial futures market site which inadvertently displays
the modum vivendi of the packing giants. This of course is
how the big Canadian Packers, mostly US-owned, were able to
produce a windfall profit increase of 300% while small
ranchers are in a crisis position.

Control both supply and markets, and make out like bandits.

LIVE CATTLE:
Packers continued to force the issue with retail beef buyers
yesterday by keeping their slaughter pace subdued and were
able to secure some higher money on boxed beef cutout
values once again. At the same time they paid mostly
$87.00/cwt. for market-ready cattle supplies in the Central
and Southern Plains, up about $3.00 from the bulk of last
week's trade.
